People use aluminum arrow shafts for the toggle, I used to work in an archery shop and have lots of carbon arrow shaft cut offs, would the carbon do fine also? Or is there some forces here I'm not understanding?

One way to find out is try it!
There should be no force on the toggle. All of the pressure or downward force is on the knot. Pretty much anything can be used as a toggle.
Just make sure that whatever you use you have a good knot and it will hold.
I have used cheap tent stakes, green sticks, and of course the toggle I use now an small chunk of tent pole. When I say small, it is no more than 2 inches long, just enough to keep a knot around it.

YMMV

Probably be ok. Some people use carbon toggles. However, some carbon arrows have all the carbon fibers oriented longitudinally, which gives good strength in that direction, but is pretty weak horizontally. The MSH will put some stress on the toggle horizontally and if the whoopie slips off the knot, all your weight is going to be on the weakest axis of the toggle.
