    Attaching hammock to slick pole

I am looking for a hammock for my bedroom. I have this big pole in my room, going theough all the floors of the flat. It is very sturdy, made of metal and finished with a slick paint coat. To me it seemed like the ideal place to hang one side of the hammock. However am I doubting if the knot will stay in place and not slip down because of the slick surface. I was wondering if anyone could shed a light on my possibilities. I did read somewhere that someone used a couple of layers of ducktape to create some sort of "bump" where the cord will rest on.

If your using tree straps and wrap them around a couple times then you should get enough friction to grip. I have hung this way a number of times off of poles, beams, signs, lamp poles and so on.

Two wraps of the strap should hold well, there is a lot of tension on the straps when the hammock is loaded and it would probably be difficult to make it slide down.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

I would stay away from duct tape since it will leave a sticky mess you'll have to deal with later. Maybe a few turns of old bicycle innertube or that high texture shelf liner. Just something to add a little grip should be fine.

If it still slides after a couple wraps, add a thin sheet of rubber around the pole under the strap.

A continuous loop around the pole with a klemheist should hold, then you could put your strap through the bight of the klemheist. You'd still be able to slide it up and down the pole to raise or lower that end of the hammock also.

You could put a large hose clamp around the pole to keep the strap from sliding down.

Pretty sure it's not what you're thinking!

My guess is plumbing, maybe heat.

    Sorry to shatter your fantasy...
