Hello! Another Georgian getting a nice hang

I'm a newbie to the world of hammocks and honestly camping in general. In High School, 12+ years ago, I went on a group trip for 15 days on the AT. Everyone tent camped. I still have my SmartWool socks and synthetic bag which is now part of my winter pod system. Was able to test my hang for two nights over the Thanksgiving holidays when it got down around 36-37, and I was all toasty!

So glad I've found this community, via the herald of hammocks we call Shug, and I'm looking forward to experiencing the woods again soon

Here's a look at my pack overall: http://lighterpack.com/r/14gxip

My UQ and TQ are being made (by me) over Christmas/New Years and I hope they will take me to 20*F. Add in the sleeping bag pod, pads, and clothes, I might hope to tackle 0*F, if opportunity presents itself! I'll be browsing DIY's til then, and will likely share the results

    happy hanging everyone

Welcome from up the road. Try to come to the Raven Cliffs hang next weekend. You'll meet lots of cool people and see lots of cool gear.

Welcome to the party. I like your gear break down. For around $150 you could knock 3 lbs off that kit with one of the packs Shug uses. (ULA, Gossamer Gear, etc.) I'm sure you are probably already considering that. That would almost offset a half gallon of water...
One of the best choices I ever made.
    Have fun!

I'm really excited to get the insulation made. That will be my biggest investment so far. Pack and tarp are top of my list after that. Both would be about to same cost to upgrade but all said and done would save probably 5 or more lbs

That's where I grew up. North of the new roundabout for Birmingham/Providence. My dad's still in the house there and it's where I got to test the hang over the holidays. Nice wooded 4.5 acres backed up against farm land, so even more woods. I miss that scenery a lot. Can't even see stars here
