The UQ produces most of your heat. I've done alright in the 30's with my 0* UQ and 40* TQ.
yes. this. a nuclear TQ cannot help a lacking UQ. thus, i reiterate the 0*. you won't regret it. since this is your first quilt, go warmer than your intuition.

We own 4 quilts from UGQ, I have tried many quilts at local hangs but the products made by Paul and Missy seem to be better to me, I love every one I own.

I appreciate all the advice. I ordered an EE 20 degree long. I'm sure that as I gain experience, I'll discover other schemes that will be lighter and work better for certain conditions or trips, but I think this one will be a good start.

I got a 20 degree long from UGQ this past fall. Used it down to around freezing and was still comfortable. I went with the 20 as it covers me for 6 months of the year up here. My winter quilt comes out for the other 6 since our temps tend to drop fast in the fall and rise quickly in the spring.
