If the view from the hammock is great, it's probably even better from some other vantage point.
Never mind the view, Porch Mode = a heap of room under the tarp. I tried it out and it was so nice, pick the side away from the wind and you lose nothing to gain more space.

I love the hennessy fly tarp, and I'm reluctant to use my larger tarp, though there comes a time when cutting out the wind over the view is preferable
I've encountered thunderstorms and driving rain with the fly tarp, lowered the sides, the hammock stayed dry, most of my gear did too, rain just caught a bit of my pack. In those conditions with the sides down, there's no room to move about though

What are some of the variations on the porch mode? Just raise the two side tie outs? Raise the middle of the side with a pole? Pics please.

Don't have any pics right now, but I'll sometimes lift one corner up with a pole and leave the others in door mode.

Yeah! This isn't the greatest pic but I did that here since it was snowing, but wanted to dry things out and have a view while cooking. At the time of this photo, I just had the doors hanging loose since there was no wind.

Here's a reasonable shot of my Superfly in porch mode:

You can create a decent amount of room to sit, cook, eat, etc. by using this mode.

A rectangular shaped tarp does provide more coverage than the minimalist std HH Asym tarp in Porch mode just by its shape & its length.
Even my HH Monsoon shape provides better coverage in Porch mode the Asym.

Plus one for porch mode (when weather is not an issue). Just because.

Went camping again, other side had heaps of wind, this side was fine for porch mode:

I could have just had it setup like an A-frame, but porch mode gives me a roomier area to hang in.
