Success doesn't come to you, you go to it.
I mentioned this idea in the Dutchware section of these here forums, and an interesting issue was brought up.
What makes the slug tubes, and hammock socks different, is the size. The slug tube is made with a tighter diameter, to allow only the gear to be compressed inside. The hammock sock is large enough for hammock, quilts, hanger, etc. It won't compress the gear like the slug tube will.
Alternatively, in response to the issue with air being able to escape the tube while it is being shoved in your pack, what about a slug tube with a noseeum window, much like dutch's winter sock?
I just got Dutch's winter sock and have packed it with quilts and hammock inside. I just stuffed everything in the bottom of the pack and compressed it down with other gear on top, easy to deploy. I'm a little worried about how well the noseum end will hold up to abrasion inside the pack, though. I have noseaum tarp skins and after about a years worth of use the stitching is coming apart. Seems to be a hazard of the material.
