Hmmm - interesting.
When my wife and I picked up the roll for the group buy, we had a long conversation with Joe, Sr. about Insultex, Arctic Armour and how they were using it and future plans and were asking Joe, Sr. about any plans for distribution through JoAnne Fabrics, et.al. Considering what it took to get the group buy going and the shipping hassle and what not, we both thought that getting Insultex through JoAnne or Hancock Fabrics or whatever would be great. The price would undoubtedly be higher, but the option of getting yardage when you wanted we thought was better.
He didn't seem interested at the time.
Maybe he has reconsidered and is changing his mind. If he can get it into the fabric stores and DIYers use it, then manufacturers might start getting interested.
One or 2 rolls - after seeing his operation, he is really, really not set-up for it. I think I caught him off-guard and he gave me a quote per yard, whole roll only and was honest and lived up to his word even though it took a long time to get the yardage for the group buy and the price had gone up (he stuck to his original price - I was open to the new price, but he said no )
MacEntyre - How are you having it shipped? That was a really big hurdle for the group buy. Maybe having your business for 21 years, he could get a shipper to deliver to you where he couldn't to our private residence.

No, he's only interested in selling to relatively high volume manufacturers in specific markets. He wants to make contractual licenses to use the material, to the exclusion of others in those specific markets. The contracts include annual volume requirements. His approach is totally the opposite of selling through distribution.
I don't understand... do you mean he is set up for higher production?
LTL to a commercial building. He said he stopped using UPS because of the cost. It's still expensive, but better than UPS.

No - he's not set up to funnel product through him. He has some storage space but very little. What product I saw is used mostly to provide product for demonstration. He had some finished product and some roll product. A few boxes and a few rolls. He is set-up for off-shore production and shipment direct. I think he keeps a few rolls around mainly for demo and development of new finished product.
That is probably one of the reasons for his high annual contract. If it isn't high, the shipping costs per roll just climb out of sight.

I knew he had little staff, but while we were talking, he interrupted me 4 times to take other calls. He said that was the time of day when he got a lot of international calls.
