    My First Hang tonight

    Hello All,

Finally getting out in my yard to test out my hammock. It will be my first hang tonight. Low should be around 17. I do not have a tarp yet, but I should be fine tonight. We will see how long I last, but seeing how it is in my yard I will have plenty to keep me warm. I have been lurking on this site for awhile, finally time to put up. My daughter loved it so she is sold for hiking trips this summer.

Want to thank all on this site, especially Mr Shug.

Awesome! Your yard is a great place to kick the tires and get a feel for how to use your equipment. I'm fairly new myself, and I've spent a few nights in the woods behind my house. I even strung the hammock up in my basement to test out ~55-60* conditions. After a week of sleeping like that, I feel very confident that I can keep myself warm and safe at 55+ degrees, and that confidence and the skills I learned will be like gold when I'm out in the back country in "for real" conditions.

Keep an eye on the Trip Planning subforum. Some nice folk who are part of the "NEHHA," North East Hammock Hangers Association are planning a hang (in April I believe). I decided to skip the most recent hang because I don't like being outside in winter..... but they all seem to be really grand folk, and I won't be missing the next hang, that's for sure!

Welcome to the passion! If you get it really right, when you wake in the morning, you'll be so toasty that you'll text someone inside to bring you a cup of coffee or cocoa so you can watch the day start from right there.

Thanks all. Toasty warm so far. We will see how the butt holds up.

Have a nice 20° sleeping bag as top quilt. Along with a supper home made fleece blanket the wife made me.

Underneath in the WBBB double layer. On the bottom, an emergency blanket( concerned about condensation- learning curve), then thermarest inflatable matteress, then a wool blanket.

    So far so good.

    Stars are nice tonight.

    Very cool. Thanks again.

What gear are you using? Which hammock? Underquilt, topquilt?
