What are your experiences with Yukon Outfitters Hammock?

I'm contemplating buying the Yukon Outfitters XL hammock while it's on sale over at Woot. I'm needing something inexpensive for my three kids to get started hammocking. What are your experiences with this? Honestly, it looks weird to me. That ridgeline looks strange and it appears that it would need to be anchored separately to the tree? Is that right or does it connect onto your tree straps or something?

Also, could I connect tree straps directly to those ropes on either end?

I'm not totally taken with this thing but the price is right to get my kids hammocking with me. I'd be open to other good ideas too for inexpensive hammocks for kids with built-in bug nets.

    What do you think?

    Ideas?

I have the Yukon with the bug net and like it just fine. It is not really a ridgeline, it is a thin bungee cord and keeps the net up, mine is hooked on the hammock suspension. My grandkids both love it and will fight over who gets to sleep in it...they like the "no bugs" thing!! I took off the heavy "S" hooks and put lightweight 'biners on it.

For kids they should be great.
You should be able to easily switch out the heavy lines knotted in the gathers to Amsteel loops and lose the 'biners altogether. Just larkshead the loops to your straps with a toggle.
Then lose the bungee for a fixed ridgeline to give controlled "sag" and a good lay, and they are all set.

i also have the Yukon with bug netting. Being new, it is ok so far. I am sure I will be upgrading and changing a few things. good thing about having bug net attached is that if you don't need it just turn hammock over.

It's pretty short but a great kids first hammock. Got my daughter one and even made an under quilt for it.
Just an out of shape middle aged guy who loves doing outdoor things with his great kids...

As others have mentioned, it will be short but that shouldn't be a problem for kids. I ordered a Yukon Outfitters Double thinking I was getting an 11.5 ft. long hammock only to discover they included the ropes on the end in the advertised length. In all reality it's less than 10 ft. long. For the price I let my kids play in it and they love it. As long as you understand what you are getting it's not a bad deal for kids.

I have one of the regular mosquito hammocks. Was good enough, but made me wonder how much better a longer hammock would be. So i made my own.My son uses it now, he's 11, and loves it.
To add a ridgeline you will need to pull some stitches on both ends and run the ridgeline through. Once you do that you will have a lot of excess bug netting. If it bothers you you can always add tie outs to keep the netting off your face. I did all that and also sewed up the ends like a HH and whipped the ends like a Hennessy as well. In the end i liked the mods so much i made a HH clone for myself.
Have to say the quality is fairly good and no problems with the construction at all. Very surprising when you consider the cost. I ewould say it's a great beginner, or kid's hammock. You don't have to spend alot to decide if you like hammocking and it's good enough of a hammock not to leave you with a sour taste.
