Red River Gorge 21-22 NOV 09

I'm gonna knock out 13 more miles of the Sheltowee Trace this weekend with my son. The weather looks good on Saturday, but Sunday may get dicey.

We're going to leave a vehicle at Natural Bridge and head over to the Gladie Nature Center to start the hike. Bison Trail up to the ST and take that straight through the RRG to Natural Bridge. I figure we'll make camp around the intersection of ST / Rough Trail / Koomer Ridge Trail.

If anybody is out that way, stop by.

BTW my friend's son is all fired up about hammocking after our 4 day trip this summer. I'm sure this weekend will seal the deal and the Happy Ho Ho Bush will have a hammock 'neath it for him this year. Now, if I could only get my son to realize the benefits of hanging. I guess I'll have to have someone else e'splain it to him since Dad's are complete morons and don't know what they're talking about.

I've done much of that section several times, nice section. If you have the time, and haven't done so already, stop & see the Indian staircase & the HUGE rock house at the top. If you don't want to miss the STT, go to the top of the wooden stairs & keep along the cliff on the right, there are trails there, if you keep right, you will eventually get to the top of the stone steps, then on the return, keep a bit closer to the cliff on the left than you did on the way in to see the rock house.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.

That's a great route. I always try to schedule a meal break on Initial Rock (top of the hill after leaving Chimney Top Creek).

Let us know how it went!

"I fish because I love to; because I love the environs where trout are found, which are invariably beautiful... because, in a world where most men seem to spend their lives doing things they hate, my fishing is at once an endless source of delight and an act of small rebellion; because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed or impressed by power, but respond only to quietude and humility and endless patience...." --Robert Traver
