    Dayton, Ohio FRB

Are any hangers here going to the Frozen Butt Hang here in Dayton, Ohio sponsored by Great Miami Outfitters on the 23rd? I'll be there for the first time this year. As of right now, the temp forecast looks tolerable for my range (hi 30's/low 20's). I'll be using my Hennessy Expedition Asym and hex tarp with some newly acquired Dutch bling for the ridgeline.

This event is completely booked full and I'm really excited to meet other hangers in the area.

Didn't know anything about it or I would have made a point to go.

I missed the original sign up but I'm on the wait list.

I'm going to show up with my Dutch 11'er and Superfly and see if people cancel or don't show up.

I was quite bummed to miss the initial signup but it filled fast!

I was going to go also, but missed the sign in sheet before it filled up also.

I contemplated just showing up, but I hate to pack all my stuff and not be able stay also....I'm torn.

I'm 5th or 6th on the wait list.

I'm in the south Dayton area so it isn't a long drive for me.

At worst, I'll get to see other people's setup. At best, I'll get to setup.

I'm hoping someone brings a bridge hammock so I can check one out.

I love my Dutch 11' hammock but I'm thinking of selling my WBBB and getting a Dream Hammock Sparrow or even a WBRR.

In truth, I'm just excited to meet some fellow hammockers and see their setups.

Saw an interview for it last year. There was a definite lack of knowledge on display out side of the Eno/grand trunk lineups. Hope to hear some have done more research.

You are correct jlink. I am friends with all the folks at Great Miami Outfitters. They are great folks but lack in the area of hammock knowledge outside of the limited lines they carry. The only reason they even know about whoopie slings is due to me making some for them. Most of the folks from Hammockforums would be most likely the most knowledgeable at the event about hammocks as a whole. A former employee and I started the frozen butt hang through GMO a few years back trying to get them excited about hammocking but it has not went past the annual FBH.

We however meet at least monthly in Twin creek. Our group has years of combined experience with in depth hammock hanging, back packing and general lolly gagging by the fire telling stupid jokes and eating a lot of very unhealthy food. It is my fault that I have not posted any of the hangs due to just being lazy I guess and for the fact that we meet most of the time on Sunday nights because we all happen to be off on Sundays and Mondays. I am going to try to get something in the works real soon for a Saturday night. I will definitely post the hang and we will have a great time as we always do talking everything hammocks and showing off all of our gear Only requirement is that you have a great fun attitude because we go to the woods to get away from anything but. You can come and talk to me anytime as Cranky can tell you at Field and Stream, I am the camping supervisor at the one in Austin Landing and just love to get people going in the right direction which a lot of times is sending them to Great Miami Outfitters due to their great selection of gear.

Please don't take me the wrong way, the GMO folks are great!! I support their business all the time sending people their way. They are just not well versed in hammocking. But a great bunch too hang out with and a great little shop in general. Not so much for the ultra light crowd.

Yes, Mountnman confirmed some things I was trying to figure out about hammocks and stoves and pointed me to some great cottage industry vendors, this great forum and Shug's videos. He then snipped some paracord from a roll and showed me a couple of handy knots and suggested GMO for a product that F&S didn't carry - thanks! If you're in the hood, give him a visit.

I have so much to learn and have only hung twice in my hammock... but these resources gave me enough confidence to hang solo in the woods last Sunday night, when it dipped to -1°.
