Thanks everybody- I called, it's all good. Hammock camping is allowed. It's just not recommended to Hang our hammocks by nailing them to the trees.
Trailhead in the morning for a glorious day in the PINEY woods!

Can confirm hammocks are fine.
We hung there in November.
Great job. Good luck on your trip hope you enjoy it . Remember some pictures for those of us staying home.
This should be in the Constitution, you should have the right to hang where and when you want. And don't buy see thru tarps so everyone can see you undress.
i usually do not camp in designated tent area sites, or any other prepared or maintained camp site. unless the literature has the "camping in designated areas ONLY" i'd say you're ok.
most places require you to camp 100-150 feet off trail when not in designated areas.
Trip Report!
Really enjoyed the weekend on the PMT! The Trail was not difficult which was perfect for the new hikers I had with me. We hike 4 miles from the Dowdell Knob Parking lot to the Sassafras Campsite for our first night. The temperature got down to 32degrees. Weather Report called for light rain which was very a simple trickle of drops in the AM. Tarp was dry ½ hour later. We were the "Lords of Lolligag" then hiked back to Dowdell Knob Parking lot for a late lunch. My new hikers were wiped out carrying their "BIG" packs full of stuff they really didn't need so we drove the car to the Mollyhugger Hill Parking lot, offloaded ½ of their packs then hiked a simple mile to the Grindstone Campsite for our last night. Easy mile back to the car the next morning and returned to Florida.
I plan to bring the family on the next trip. Some Trail Notes:
-Water easily accessible along the trail and at most campsites.
-The trail section we hiked was well maintained.
-You will hear a train and train whistle throughout the night.
-There is a backcountry camping fee and a parking fee.
-No trail camping only at campsite (state park)
-Camping reservations are recommended.

Beautiful! Thanks so much for the excellent photos and information.
"...the height of hammock snobbery!"
