    Hello from Upstate SC

I just stumbled across this site after doing some research on various hammocks. other than playing around and trying out hammocks owned by friends of mine, I have no experience with sleeping in them.
I recently started to get my gear back together for short backpacking trips and have realized that Hammocks seems to be a great option for sleeping accommodations.

I look forward to learning a ton about hammocks and how to best utilize the model I end up buying. I am 6'5" tall and 230# so I realize how hard it is to adapt to "one size fits all" gear.

So, greetings from South Carolina and I look forward to learning a great deal from this group!

Welcome from Nashville, Tennessee, though I was born and raised in Upstate SC, in Powdersville. This is THE site for learning about hammocking. It's also one of the very best sites on the web for friendliness and staying on topic.

Hey from Charlotte. Nice area you are in. Got back into backpacking myself a few years back and glad I did so.

@tallpaul, I know what you mean. My wife and I have done several day hikes recently and we really enjoy it. She has no desire to do an overnight trip so I am working on finding hiking and backpacking partners around me. Many friends say they want to do some backpacking but none have committed yet.
We did Crowder Mountain two weeks ago and did the backside trail. Whew! that trail is steep! It was 700+' of elevation gain in just under a mile. The legs feel that climb the next few days!

6'4" and 350lbs here, but there's a lot of information to be had out there. I'd recommend checking out one of our group hangs (lot of members of PSH up there in the upstate that you can hook up with, too) to see what might work best for you.

Check us out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/groups/palmettostatehangers and get to know us - we might not steer you right, but we promise not to steer you wrong.
I used to be a somebody, now I just camp.

I've spent a lot of time in my younger days in upstate SC. Greenville area, Piedmont specifically. Also spent time at USC in Columbia. Been in Charleston a few times, and now have a sister in law in Beaufort who I've visited.

Awesome state filled with awesome people. I have nothing but positive memories of SC.

Welcome, more information than I have grasped yet. If you get a chance to go to a hang before you purchase, you can learn a tons in a day.
