Hey all. I know this is off topic, so sorry for hijacking the thread. I'm in the process of working on a bug net for this coming summer. Does Utah have a lot of no-see-ums? I'm from FL, practically bug capital of the US, so I don't know what to expect out here.
Skeeters can be bad at certain times through the summer months in the mountains but no see ums are not to big of a deal out west. I spent a few months on the MS coast after Katrin doing disaster relief work and I hated when I needed to get down right on the coast. Those little buggers were everywhere and came right through the window screen. Bit like a son of a gun, but no we don't usually have much of a problem with them, it's skeeters and deer ticks that we Deet up for out here.

The western states are really varied in the bug situation. I river raft on lots of rivers in Utah and Idaho. Most of the time I never use or even carry bug spray. But there are places like mountain lakes that can be bad for mosquitos. There are also certain rivers like the Green River right after high water, as the water drops that can be awful for the little suckers. Deer flies and yellow jackets can be bothersome, but none of the no-seeums like Florida.
