    Complete lightweight suspension

So I used to use whoopies, marlin spike hitch and straps, but I found that when it rained my hammock would get wet after packing it up due to the attached wet whoopies. I switched to continuous loops attached to whoopie hooks on whoopies on straps and no more wet hammock thanks to the hook acting like a water break. Being in the southeast, where it is frequently wet, this is a concern. Does anybody know if I would get wet loops if I used the marlin spike or the spider? I'm assuming the results would be the same... wet hammock in my pack.

Dynaglide whoopies? I kind of thought of them as extreme.. Are they strong enough?
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I fail to be ultralight and cheer for ultralight hammockers from sidelines.
I think dynaglide whoopie slings are strong enough for overnights and weekends.
I question their durability on an AT trek because if one breaks--what you gonna do?--break out a spare--doesn't that make rig weigh more? I can be completely wrong since I've only tested dynaglide in dream lab during short naps.
One way to look at ultralight is yes use dynaglide on a two week trek--hope for the best and do the best as you can and be happy--rig is light. HYOH YMMV

Dynaglide whoopie slings, how long do they last before replacing with new slings?

I am using kevlar > dynglide slings w/hooks > dynaglide CLs. I do not have enough time in yet to comment on long-term use.

I thought about kevlar> mule tape > CLs. I think I like the water break from the hook enough to justify its weight.

He asked for the lightest and that's the lightest. Dynaglide is rated to 1000 lbs, not sure how much splicing reduces overall strength but many gram weenies use it. At 6.50 per 25 feet he could mail himself a new set every month and still be at $40 cost. Which is low if the weight savings over 7/64 Amsteel means that much.

    ....I use 7/64 Amsteel

A becket hitch using webbing, mule tape or even amsteel, is lighter, cheaper and easier to use than any of the shiny hardware options available.

Dynaglide whoopies certainly pushes cool factor over the top. And while I love the 'ultra-lite' idea, conceptually, I'm no gram weenie. I switched from HF straps, MSH + whoopies to Kevlar, slippery sheetbend'd to a six foot length of 7/64 and KoLA's at the CL. Definitely saved some weight and a whole lot of bulk.

I'm just a newby but this is what I recently put together.
    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...uspension-idea
It works and weighs about 7 grams total in 7/64 Amsteel. Not sure how much that would save in dynaglide.
But no hardware and lightweight. Appears to be solid so far. Not sure how durable it will be in the long run.
    Just my two cents worth.
    Cheers
