    New to HF

I am new to the HF as of today. I recently attended a scouting event in central Florida where I was introduced to hammock camping. I won Derek Hansen's book Ultimate Hang, and read most of it in one sitting. I am excited to learn more and catch up on what I've been missing all these years using tents. Other than hands on experience and this forum, and a book such as Ultimate Hang, what would be the best resource for a beginner to use?

    Thanks,
    RD

Welcome to the forums, Dishnamr! Wow, I think you have the sources well in hand. That book, this forum and joining some group hangs should do you good! Browsing Shug's videos on youtube is recommended strongly. In fact, search youtube for hammock camping and sit back and enjoy. Ask questions and don't forget to check out the "stickies", especially, the abbreviation sheet. That helped me a lot!

    Lots of stickies here

Welcome from 2 counties East of you.

You're in a wonderful location to experience some great camping. We have quite a few hammock trips into Ocala National Forest and other areas within a 3hr drive. You just missed the largest group hang last weekend at HangCon in Ocala with over 300+ folks. Here is the Trip Report and a future Drone video is to come.

Check out the Trip Planning section SE subsection for more upcoming trips in February.
-At the top, click on the "forum" tab.
-Scroll down to "Hangouts, Campouts, Trip Planning.
    -Click the Southeast sub forum.

This will be where to get all the threads to help you get out with us.
Hope to see you on the trail.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
