    Hello from Dallas Texas

I'm an adult leader for scouting and I was fascinated with an eagle scout that we met while visiting a troop. He was hammock camping and it blew me away. So I went and attended a hammock camping scout course and won a free hammock. Nothing fancy, but it's a start. I'm upgrading the hardware and ropes to load rated items.

My first project will be 1/8" amsteel whoopie slings. Next I am not for sure what I should do for a tarp, but I'm more than likely going for a DIY underquilt because I've been sewing for years.

Cool! I am new to hammocking, also. My husband and son are both in Scouting, but neither has converted to hammocks (yet!), though my son chose a hammock as his popcorn sale prize. I'll keep my eye out for any hammock camping Scout courses up our way. I always see a few hammocks at summer camp. It looks like some troops have converted almost entirely! Good luck with your quilt. Is there much need for that in Texas??

haha yes! I'm near Dallas myself...Cleburne area. Low temps recently in the 30's - 40s. Of course during the dead of summer the lows are 70s so you could probably get away without it then...but 9-10 months out of the year you would appreciate some backside insulation at night

It was at Circle10's (Council) University of Scouting. I'm thinking a 20F should cover about 2 weeks of Fall and Spring and all of Winter. I might make a lighter one for other times. Bug netting will come later in the year.
