"Every day above ground is a good day"
I have 2 Clarks, an Ultralite that mu son uses and a North American. I bought both used on one of the boards for about what a Hennessy costs. Justin uses an underquilt I made from a Ray Way quilt kit with a Sierra Designs 20 degree bag and has been OK down to about 30 (Thats as cold as he's been out in a hammock). I've used the North American with a JRB No Sniveler on both top and bottom into the 20's with a down vest and fleece pants. I've used the ultralite with a BA Insulated Air Core and Emcampment down to about 35.
I actually called Clarks yesterday since I was home and I talked to Gary the owner for some time. He was pretty adamant that the hammock with gear or inflated zip lock bags in the external pockets and a proper sleeping bag should keep you warm and comfortable to the rating of the bag. He also said that some people do well with adding a ccp from wally world or the likes. The reason he said that people think they need under quilts is because all the other hammocks require them, where as the North American doesn’t and is a 4 season hammock on it’s own.
I guess the only way for me to find out is to buy it lol, since I don't know anyone who has one nor are they sold locally.
I think I'm just going to try the clarks, then get an SPE with the 1/2 pad and then get a larger 40x80 pad (this stuff perhaps http://www.foambymail.com/Volara.html) somewhere to put under it. With a 20 degree bag and the 1" or so of pad that side I should be good to 20, maybe lower if I dress warmer or have an additional blanket or sack liner.

Underquilts are definitely not required on any hammock. I have both JRB quilts and have gone to 12 degrees with pads only underneath. 1 3/8 inches to be exact.
I would skip buying the 40x80 pad. Too bulky. The SPE, which I have both sizes, will work great for 1" of pad and up to 3". The wings really work well also.

Man for the price of that Clark you could get a Hennessy and a Speer hammock as well as other gear. That would work out great if you decided to take along a friend.
