    Indestructible sewing machine needed

Lets not beat around the bush. I have broken 2 sewing machines in 3 years.

I am looking for a durable/reliable basic machine. I'm reaching out for help from the people who know.

How do I use my machine you ask?
I set the speed just up past half, drop the hammer and let it eat. I change needles often and try to never pin thing together. I often sew very thin silky material like argon 67 or 90, up to Double layer nylon webbing. I make bridge hammocks, gathered end hammocks, Tarps, TQ's and UQ,s. Make no mistake I'm not trying to break my machines but I'm not trying to baby them either. I only use straight and zig zag stitch. I have no need for all kinds of crazy stitch patterns just the reliable basics.

Help me with some reasonably priced selections if you can.

Well, I've used a Singer 4423 for a few years and have not necessarily been kind to it. I haven't really done any maintenance besides changing a needle that broke. It still works fine, but you have to realize that it's also made in China. The whole machine feels sturdy, but there are more commercial choices that would undoubtedly take more abuse. It came in at a nice price point, although it was a gift I do know that it was bought for $100 on sale at a fabric and sewing supply store in my neighborhood. I'm sure that an older well maintained machine would be a better choice, but the one I have has been great to learn on, and I probably won't need another for the duration of my sewing expedition. There's another one, the 4411, that's simpler with less patterns.

Maybe you should look for an industrial machine? Killing two machines …….
With a history like that I doubt you can find any household machines you won’t be able to kill. Sorry

But what kind of machines are you breaking? If they were really low-end machines, upgrading to a higher-end machine might do the trick.

If you can find a Husqvarna 19e or 21a model maybe ……..
I think the killer is the webbing. Its a hard job for any household machine.

The good stuff is at 2:30.

My 4423 is not phased by a couple layers of heavy duty webbing. Or 6 layers of nylon and a layer of 7.5oz Climashield.

Both machines have been Broth**. For fairness to the manufacturer you'll have to guess three last two letters. The first one was $70, the second $220. Both had great reviews and worked well for a while then seem to wear out fast. The first lost timing and was to costly to repair. The second just locked up, it wont even budge. I think the extra $ was for fancy features not for durability.
