    Tarp doors

I know this (doors at least) has been discussed on other threads, but I'm just wondering if there is a gap in the market for a tarp which has removable doors. I've seen Grizz's excellent beak solution, and I like the warbonnet tarp with the doors, but I don't really want to decide which tarp to take with me before a trip.

I have the clark xl which came with my nx250, which is excellent, though for wet weather does not give enough coverage to cook under. I like the design and obvious build quality of the mac cat tarps, but for use here in the UK it would be really useful to have an option to add doors if needed. We get a lot of blustery wind, and in the hills it's constantly shifting direction. Add rain into the mix and one minute you're dry and in shelter, the next the wind and rain is coming right at you.

I've been playing with google sketchup and designed a hex shape with cat curves which would be ideal for my type of use, but the door element is stumping me. I made a couple of models with different door shapes (two attached doors a bit like the warbonnet one) and another with doors which meet in the middle, but to get that pitch right the angle of the sides has to be right. To have detachable ones seems like the solution - in summer just leave them at home, and in spring/autumn./winter, take them along. Velcro on the tarp sides adds weight, snaps arent weather tight.

Does anyone have any thoughts, comments or great ideas?

Is that official now? If so are they snaps or the new shock cord/hook attachment that was in the works?

warbonnetguy - how are you attaching doors with shock cord and hooks - anybody have pics?

Has anyone made Grizz's SOB's for the HH Hex yet? If I have time, I may try to make a couple before this weekend, but I'm not going to have a lot of time to measure for the pattern.

I'm pretty confident we have the beak pattern finalized for the OES MacCat Deluxe and Ultra. Grizz will be taking a look at it and I'm setting it up for Dutch to evaluate this Saturday. If everything goes to plan, we should begin to take orders for them sometime in January. Grizz has provided me with a math calculation so we can adapt the beak to any tarp. I have yet to figure it out but we should be able to fit the beak to any tarp, hex, or straight.

2Q sent me a prototype that ZQ made up, I suppose for the MacCat Deluxe, and it is a beautiful piece of sewing. I'm going to bring it up this weekend, and if I can find my HH Hex I will test it out on it also (the Hex may be out on loan though...)

If you're not afraid of trignometry, PM me and I'll send you a copy of something I sent to 2Q on determining the angle of joining the two pieces. That's the only part of the construction that isn't immediately straightforward.
