Let me say first that Life Scout did a phenomenal job planning this outing! As usual, we had a great group of people that would make any hike a pleasure, rain or shine. The terrain was very unlike Florida which made it an even more interesting hike.
Enough said, now for the pictures.

And even though I was stuck sheltering under our tarps in the rain Saturday evening, it didn't mean my Esbit stove couldn't serve up a gourmet meal.

As always....the worst day in the woods is still better than sitting at home. Saturday was a beautiful day of hiking that was cut short by what I thought was just a short afternoon shower. Around 5pm or so the skies opened into a deluge. The evening hopes of chatting around a roaring campfire were soon snuffed out. Fortunately there was room under big tarps or in the few tents that came along to hang out and socialize throughout the evening.

Like turning off a shower head the waterworks ended just before sunrise. The skies turned a bright shade of blue, the sun popped out, and it was as if the previous night's downpour hadn't happened. We managed another brisk 7 miles or so out to the trailhead and on home.

For me this was a special occasion. I got to hike with a buddy I hadn't seen in almost 5 years. I had the chance to introduce a few of my ground-dwelling friends to a bigger group of hangers (just to prove they're not all as strange as me). We all got a chance to experience one of the most beautiful hikes in FL. Thanks again Life Scout for putting this together.

That's a beautiful trail indeed. Thanks for some great pics. So that's what those Northerners get to see in the mountains. Keep the pics coming.

Can't wait to get some trail miles in and that's the place. Couple more weeks to I see y'all again.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Max 8 people per site . I had to pull some state favors to get this done. Only 2 sites are approved for hammocks and it's not these 2. The camp host and Rangers allow hammocks to be hung on the horse poles at other sites. But that's only 3 available per site.

Thanks, LS, for your ambassadorship to the park on our behalf. I hope this helps to move our way of hiking into better approval by the parks system.

Coordinating with 3 different Rangers and one state official just so we can overnight park and camp where we wont suppose to has been and interesting undertaking. All while not trying to damage the good relationship I have with the state. Good news is it all went off flawlessly. The system in not set up for flexibility (no overnight parking) means no. Unless you know the right people and get permission.

It was fun and I will do it again in the future. Watch for upcoming events.
