    What to do with fabric

I recently found some ripstop nylon at Walmart value section for $1/yd and bought all 9.9yds they had. Its breathable and thin (I'm guessing 1.1) and wondering what to do with it.

I like to make stuff sacks out of it. It is also good for hammocks. I didn't even double it up when I found similar material. I'm not saying I would trust it for an extended trip with no option to bail...but it seems sturdy enough. My eight year old likes to mess around with it. I also made a sock out of mine, using a little left over bug netting for a "window." I ended up not liking it, but it was a cheap chance to experiment.

    Maybe a gear hammock?

It's been a while since there has been a RS Nylon siting at Walmart. Congrats.

I bought as much as I could when I found it. I first made a double hammock. Then a single layer(my current). The double, I took apart for 2 singles for my wife and son. Remnants used for my hammock BlackBishop stuff sack, double ended stuff sack, quilt stuff sacks, etc. and I still have a little left for other small projects like insulation booties, Redoleary style pillow and the like.

I hope this helps a little and good luck.

I'd like to use it for a larger project before I start making stuff sacks. I'm really tempted to make a tarp but a little wary on the waterproofing, if it works well I'd have a full size tarp with doors for less than $30. But a double layer hammock would be nice to be able to better use a pad. I'm torn between the two ideas.

I found some as well last year, and bought the whole roll. I've got a couple of single layer hammocks made from it, which I use when I'm going lightweight. You have to be gentle with them, but I haven't seen any sign of failure. My latest creation with that fabric is a double layer hammock with a costco quilt sewn to the bottom of the second layer. It's my new favorite hammock.

Good luck. It's always fun to find something cool like that.
Crayons - they might look different, but they all taste the same

I would go for a DL hammock.
IMO DIY waterproofing is a thing of the past. You don’t know how much it will stretch when it get wet. SilNylon stretches when it gets wet and many of us have moved on to Silpoly materials for that reason its the better choice for a tarp IMO.

    Edit
Forgot to mention a UQP could also be an option.

Just wash that hammock. Use some sort of fresh deodorant on it as well. It takes the fume smell out
