Silver Surfer uses a whoopie sling with a whoopie hook. Although he Dutch Clip phobia is unjustified. They work great with the Kevlar 2.2.

As Dutch said, on one end of the strap, I have a whoopie sling with whoopie hook larksheaded onto the loop. On the other end of the strap is a loop as well. I wrap the strap around the tree and run the whoopie sling/strap through the loop. Four ft. straps work for 90% of the trees on the East Coast. If I need to extend the straps because the tree is too wide, I carry a couple of continuous loops.

All Right, then! Put a whoopie hook on a continuous loop; lark's head the continuous loop to the loop on a 15' strap; use an Adutchable to secure the other end of the strap to the tree AND tension the hammock. I will bet it is lighter than a whoopie/web system of the same length. And you will have more flexibility than with a 48" strap for that 10% of the time you are in the East, or if you ever choose to leave the comforts thereof.
