Altering the JRB BMBH suspension question

I would like to separate the long suspension strap from my hammock. I really dislike putting a dirty strap back into the stuff sack with the hammock. Would it be a better idea to undo the the sewing at the primary ring on the main strap and then find some one to resew the strap. Or cut the ring off? I would use a biner to make the main strap detachable.

you'd probably be better off cutting the strap or the ring, stitch-ripping webbing is a PIA.

To avoid stuffing the straps in the stuff sack with the hammock I leave them sticking out of the bag and wrap them around the the outside. As an added benefit the serve as a simple form of compression.
