    "Campable"Florida Lake Shore?

Looking for Central/Northern Florida Lakes with canoe accessible primitive camping available. Or slow moving rivers for an in/out trip (not fond of paddling against the current!). Many years back I explored a few Ocala NF lakes but could find no camp sites, the shorelines were all thickets or swamps. But plenty Gator "Slides"!

    Help appreciated!

A lot of my friends go "glamping" along the Ocklawaha between Rays Wayside and Gore's Landing.

There's also the old Florida Hang site, Buck Lake, http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/ocala...a/?recid=40229 Heck you could turn it into a full blown meet up, alot of people miss that place, including me. Don't get me wrong, our new site, Doe Lake is fantastic, but I miss being at Buck Lake with my friends.... Homesick I guess

Thanks! A very good possibility. How is it for Hammocking along the way?

Thanks, but not looking for a campground, just a primitive site along the shore.

I think we just stayed in the campgrounds (Rays and Gores). There's also camping at a canoe outfitter farther downstream. I believe the majority of the property along the river is private so there's nowhere to hang.

We've had good luck paddling/hanging along the Santa Fe. My favorite spot is hanging just upstream of the Hwy 47 bridge along the river. It's conservation area property so you have to get a permit from the water management district.

There are areas on the Peace River in Central Florida. Best trips depend on time available. If you can do two nights, I would launch at Pioneer Park, and take out at the Brownsville boat ramp. If you had one night, I would still launch at Pioneer, but take out at Gardner boat ramp. Both Gardner and Pioneer are along 17 on the west side. There are infinite camp sites. One or two are better than the rest, but one of the best things about that river is the availability of camp spots and fire wood. There is a small portion of river that you can't camp on the east side, but if you launch at Pioneer, you won't have to worry about that.

Just north of Buck Lake, about 3/4 of a mile, there is a ramp for Sellers Lake, here's the link to it, not sure about camping, there is an island out in the middle of it, but not sure what's there tree-wise or even if your able to get onto it. Perhaps Southernwonton can provide more insight.
