    A weekend on Mt. Rogers

This last weekend I took a trip to Mt. Rogers, VA. to bid farewell to Fall and welcome Winter. It was quite possibly the most perfect backpacking weather anyone could ask for. The sun was shining, the ponies were naying, and a giant black lab stole my spare pair of Ex-Officio boxers. All-in-all, it was an absolutely fantastic weekend!...

Nice report and thanks for sharing. Ponies and dogs and sunshine, nothing wrong with that.

So this is what Grayson Highlands looks like without fog, clouds, 50 mph winds, rain, and snow. Maybe I should go back for a second try.

    Nice pics. Thanks

I've seen all kinds of extremes up there, even on the same trip.
First time I hiked into the Mt Rogers area, fog was so thick that you couldn't see the hiker in front of you if he got more than 20' ahead of you.
The next day, it burned of & was so clear that you could see mountains all the way to the horizon!!!

Hey, it was thick enough that one of the ponies and myself almost ran together where two paths junctioned. We were head down and hunting cover.
