Anyone know a place to hang near Ricketts Glen? My brother and I are going next weekend and free camping in state parks or state game lands (to my knowledge) is not allowed.
Thanks!!

You can camp in a pa state forest for free. You can only stay on night at any given location and must pack in / out your gear. You would have to check where the nearest state forest is. Rickett's Glen SP has camping, but I don't think it is open this time of year. Also not free.
There is no camping at all allowed in state game lands. I've heard varied reports about Ricketts Glen and their hammock policies. Soe have said they are ok with it. Others have said it is not allowed. Be aware that Rickett's Glen has limited access and uses allowed in the winter. For example the Falls trail is closed to all except permitted experienced ice climbers. It is a hazardous trail in wet conditions and down right treacherous in icy conditions.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I live about 30 miles away, so that is my local SP. We have had numerous broken ice climbers life-flighted out of there. I am personally find of Lycoming Trail which is in state forest. That is just a bit to the west in Tioga county. SP have a lot more rules.
Oh, I wast there in the fall and the lake was mostly drained for work on the dam. I don't know if it is filled yet.
There is limited camping in SGLs per the statute in this link. http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/05...5/s135.42.html
The quoted statute is for camping on the AT when it passes through a SP. Rickett's Glen is about 50 miles from the AT.
An example might be where the AT passes through Swatara SP.
Ramblinrev stated " There is no camping at all allowed in state game lands." which is why I posted the reference to the statute about camping on SGLs. I realize that Rickett's Glen is not a SGL but a SP.
Conquering Fool- Did you consider Delaware State Forest? Camping in the state forests can be done. Here is link to the DCNR online application to camp in the state forests. http://www.apps.dcnr.state.pa.us/for...plication.aspx
