Loop in the channel or girth hitch behind the gather or both?

I have a DL, knotty mod, Dutch hammock to play with. I like to put a loop with a ring on it at the ends, then I swap out suspension to the ring. The ring acts as a water stop and lets me try out webbing/line/whoopie slings - easily switching with the whim.

When I thread through the channel, I usually run the line (or loop) through twice so it cinches down on the material. That way, the stitching of sewn channel doesn't have to take the whole load. But I could also just use a zip-tie in the channel to create a "knob" and tie in behind that. The plus is all the stress is on the material, not the stitching. The minus is, in storage/transportation the wrap behind the gather can loosen up and maybe fall off the hammock while in storage - not likely but could happen.

I could run a loop through the channel and then fold it back behind the channel gather and make a few wraps on the fabric. That way the suspension is always with the hammock but the holding effort is on the fabric (Hexon 1.0 - DL) and not just the stitching.

Any ideas I'm missing in the above consideration?

You're overthinking it. The loops won't come off once you have weighted the hammock. I have several Warbonnets and DIYs that I gathered Warbonnet-style, and the Amsteel is hard to get off after I have used my hammocks once.

I just loop my whoopies through the channel simple.

Sometimes i would put a CL through, you can use a soft shackle if you want stuff removable.

I second this. One of my hammocks had this setup and it works well.

That's what I did with my DIY hammock, and it works very well. It gives me the option of connecting the soft shackles directly to the marlin spike hitch if the trees are close together.

okay on the soft shackle or whoopie sling in the channel - but it seems then you are just relying on the stitching, rather than the material, to hold up. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I'd just like my loop to grab more of the hammock material.

Lots of hammocks out there relying on the stitching. Just check your gear periodically.

What if it rains? Won't your wet whoopies get your hammock wet when you stow it?

By the time the channel is gathered by the loop isn't the fabric taking up the majority of the force?

The stitch holes can be a source of failure. Most often it's not but over time and with wear it's possible.
