Trying this gizzmo for tying off...

    http://www.marinetech.info/pmarine/p...php?sku=558100

I found this little thingy in the marine section of local sporting goods store (Academy), and thought it may work to just "weave" my hammock line... 200# weight limit seems to be a drawback.

Will post results promptly upon my return. (have to go to the farm where theres trees...)

Also grabbed one of these do-hickies http://niteize.com/productdetail.php...product_id=137
to see what it may do too. (150# limit.. )

I'm not sure I understand what you intend to use it for.

The Figure-9's are great. I use the 'small' ones for hanging my tarp, but the weight rating (even on the big ones) is small enough that I wouldn't trust my weight with it. YMMV

Small size should be sufficient for most tarp lines.

I just got 4 Figure 9's a couple days ago. A friend picked them up at REI in Atlanta for me. They are so cool and simple; it's just a tiny piece of aluminum but just the idea of it is exciting. I can't wait to start using them.

Sometimes it's just the little things that amaze me and get me excited.

It's pretty amazing the difference those little $2.00 babies make in setting up and tearing down.

    Well....

I have tried the ring buckles... I still have to figure how to tie the rings so that they lay flat against each other...Ive experience "slippage." Not a good thing!

I tied up the cleats this evening and then layed in the HH... not bad. easy, quick, light. photos to follow...

That's a pic that Grizz posted of how he tied his, and I did a very similar arrangement. Works well so far.

As far as slippage, you'll possibly get some if the webbing doesn't stay lined up exactly through the rings. You can, after pulling tight through the rings, tie a slip knot with the webbing so that it can't slip until you loosen the knot.

I've been pondering the slippage issue. I'm a pretty simple-minded designer, but I'm thinking that maybe a bight (bite, byte?) or loop pulled through the second ring rather than threading the end, and put a small stick in the loop and pull tight? If you are hanging to trees there should be sticks laying around close by...

Waiting to try this after I get my ingredients ordered and in hand...

I really like the ring buckle idea, but being that it takes getting the webbing precisely lined up upon itself... Id rather not bother with such tedium. I just posted the pics of the nylon (plastic) boat mooring cleat in my gallery (will try to get them over here...?)

It was a really quick and easy setup and take down.

I used the HH straps that came with the hammock, wrapped them around the tree as normal, threaded the hammock cord thru the webbing as usual, then just "wove" the cord thru the cleat and WA-LA. Up and hangin'.

Will stay over nite this weekend and give it a real test.
