    ODH, 2016 PowHaW Planning thread.

Greetings ODH, It is time to begin planning for our second annual spring PowHaW! Last year we went with May and this year I am also looking in the merry month. The first weekend, 30 April/1 May is the weekend of "Fat Butt hang" down at Merchants Mill pond. The last weekend is Memorial Day weekend. I am thinking one of the weekends in between. Thoughts? Questions, comments, smart remarks?
As soon as we have some idea of a weekend, I will contact a park about reservations and a project this year. Do we want to go with Powhatan SP again? We could go with Pocahontas SP, Twin Lakes, Bear Creek, or maybe James River. We could even look at one of the National Park service campgrounds, up on the BRP or Skyline Drive.
The floor is open for discussion here!

I am also looking at planning a summer hang, in July or August, down toward the Va Beach/Newport News area. Right now I am thinking First Landing State Park.

Wow. I can't believe I missed this somehow. Unfortunately, neither of those weekends work for me. I'm traveling for work the first and my wife's birthday is the second. She would probably kill me. Was Powhatan convenient for most? Do we need to look at some place that can handle a few more folks?

I am really looking at some place which can handle more. Tammy and I are putting in an offer on a place with twenty, wooded acres today! :-) In Cumberland county.
I apologize that I have been distracted but we are really trying to get a house and it would be nice if we could get one with some land where we can host hangs without SP limitations.

We're already committed to help with radio coverage during Marine Corps Historic Half marathon, 15 May. That's our radio club's big event for the year.

Got it down Bob. So far you are the only one really weighing in on the two middle weekends.

I think any of the weekends May work for me. Im going to be missing the MAHHA so i will like to do this one. Had to miss last year. I dont know the Richmond area enough to say on locations.

Also like the idea of Summer hang in the tidewater area.

Ok ODH, big news. It is begining to look like we have a park, a date and a great spring service project. I will know more this afternoon but I just talked with Jennifer, at James river and they sound excited about giving us a "special use" permit, to allow up to fifty hangers in for three days the weekend of 13-15 May. They desperately need help in their "primitive campground" and we can both hang there and fix it up. Sweet.
Best of all, it MAY, and I emphasize MAY not cost us anything this time around.
I will post more when I get confirmation......Ok, I will just start the sign up thread then! Keep your fingers crossed and thing Christina Garcia who really made the connections for this one folks!
