I'm heading out for 4 nights tomorrow. Since it gets dark at 6pm now I need to put some effort into staying up at least until 9pm. Going back to my old wine-in-platypus trick which I haven't done in a long time. Bringing the good Silky saw for a good fire and maybe the Helinox so I can sit back and relax.
It's getting dark a little before 5pm here! I don't usually build fires the rest of the year but I do sometimes on these long, cold evenings of late fall and winter. A good, slow-burning cigar and some adult spirits to sip can help. Sometimes review photos on the phone, send a couple to wife/friends if a cell signal is available.

I read on my Kindle. It’s the only time I ever read a book. Fold back mitts are great for that.

Yeah, some things were put on earth, like mosquitoes and banana slugs, some spiders - to remind us we are not in heaven. So was the idea of making it dark AND cold at the same time one of those things. I mean, I'd love to learn the constellations. But is the summer, when it's warm, you have to wait long hours into the night before it gets dark enough. In the winter, it gets dark much earlier. But then it's so cold to be outside and scan the sky with your constellation finding/naming tools. What's up with that?
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
Take photos/video, read, journal, fish or sit by the lake or river enjoying the solitude and pondering life...

I like to take photos, sit by a river and ponder (if I'm near one), or just stare at the trees.
Into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul
Try to not let the fear creep in, where every unknown sound is a potential menace.
