Maybe get some 2 inch tree straps from Dutch......http://www.dutchwaregear.com/2-inch-huggers.html
That seems to sooth the Rangers. They normally want you to hang where tenter set up. If they have rustic sites it is better.

I truely wish .. The real facts would come out about hammock damage to trees... If you really search there's so much myth. I see only small trees really get any damage. (thin bark) I use tree strap webbing now just so I don't get the "BAD GUY" look. Maybe someday the real facts will show.. The crazy thing if your hunting State hunting areas ... You can use climping tree stands that can do so much more damage.. with cables and jaws... hmmm !

Shug, I saw a video of yours some time ago where I heard you mentioned it wasn't ok. I was hoping someone knew and may be able to reference the rule from the DNR.
This has been around for awhile. https://www.google.com/fusiontables/...Vap8#rows:id=1
You might want to contact them again to get clarification for all parks in Minnesota.
This was from a post called 50 state project

Thank you.
Thanks for the link, Shug. I was just recently at St Andrews SP in Florida, to tryout my new WBBB XLC, and was told I had to have 2" straps, I only had 1" straps! I will certainly get a pair of those 2" straps from Dutch.
PS: I appreciate your videos very much, and admire your BBQ and juggling skills.

Super late reply on this thread, but doing it anyway... The DNR web site itself only summarizes the rules for state parks, with the stuff people most commonly need to know. The full authoritative list of rules can be found in Minnesota Rules, Chapter 6100 on the web site of the Revisor's Office of the legislature: https://www.revisor.mn.gov/rules/?id=6100
There are no laws or rules specific to hammocks for Minnesota state parks, forests, or recreation areas. The only things you need to know are the general regulations for camping, like being in a designated site if in a state park (6100.1250), and not injuring or damaging trees or other vegetation (6100.0900). Park rangers would have discretion to determine what sort of straps you should have to not damage the types of trees in their park, but other than that you're good.
Never had a issue in Gooseberry SP.
I primarily disperse camp in MN state forests. No amenities like a state park but it's free. Most have a basic campground or day use area of some kind, where I typically leave my car, and then head off on the trails. MN DNR site has good maps for each state forest on its website.
