a how to question uploading pics

How do you 'embed' a photo into post/thread? All I know how to do is link to something like a Flickr or Webshots photo album...thanks for clear/explicit directions so a caveman can do it.

One way is to upload your picture in the HF gallery, then click on your newly loaded picture so you get the big view of it.
Look below the picture & you will see the URL. Copy it, then go back to the thread that you want to put it in & paste it in your new post.

For Flickr(and probably others) just go to the photo you want to use, on the Flickr page, and grab the URL, same as slowhike mentioned above, and paste it into your post using the "Insert Image" button.

I always preview my post, to make sure everything is showing up the way I want it to, before hitting the Submit Reply button.

Another way, and how I do it, if you don't want to host them offsite is to upload them using the Manage attachment tool. Once loaded right click and in the dialog box click "copy Loacation" then click on the image icon, paste your new URL and it shows up. You also get the thumbnails below this way, but you can post them anywhere in your post text, in any order.

It's nice to be able to go to the gallery and browse, seeing everyone's photos in one place.

    It's really easy.

First thing to do is to scroll down to the Manage Attachments area when you are making your post.

Then click on the Manage Attachments button. This will open a popup window. If you have popups turned off you will need to enable them for hammockforums.net.

You will see a bunch of Browse buttons. Using the one at the top, click Browse and it will allow you to search your computer for your image.

I find it easier to put the images I want to use in a folder on my desktop. Once you have found your image, you can go to the next one and continue on until you have all your images (max 10) in the boxes. Then, click Upload.

Once it has finished uploading the image, you will see the filename(s) listed. Once you see all your image names, scroll down to the bottom of that popup window and click on Close Window.

You can then click on Submit Reply.

Good point, and well taken. I'll make it a practice to add my photos to the HF Gallery.

Is it okay to add large numbers of pics? For instance, at the Linville Gorge Hang I have 152 photos and 121 from the last Northern Hang. Should they be grouped somehow?

Sure, there's no problem with uploading as many images as you like. They can be grouped into the existing categories, or by adding keywords and tags as they are populated. Or, if you think we need more top level categories, just let me know and I'll get them added.
