    Shorter bury on UCR

I finally constructed a hammock stand in the backyard so I could do experimentation.

I just received a 1.1dbl WB Traveler. I have a whoopie sling on my WBBB, but for further weight savings, wanted to try the UCR on the Traveler. As has been mentioned in other threads, the bury is generally longer on a UCR since there is only tension on one end. So I decided to do an eye splice on both ends of the UCR. One for anchoring, the other for hanging a weight ... to add tension to the other end. At night, I use my backpack for insulation at the footend of the hammock. I always have a couple nylon stuff bags with me, so I place stuff from my BP into the stuff sacks and hang them from the UCR. (If not enough weight, I add rocks). This adds tension to both ends of the UCR and shortens the bury requirements. The photo below is 8". (I think I could get by with less).

I never put whoopies on the traveler.
But the traveler weighed 20.5oz with just the 7/64" amsteel that was attached. A whoopie should add another 1oz (10' on either end).

Looks great, Hike! You've got more guts than I do with that length of bury.

    Nice clean looking stand, btw!

Nice looking stand, Hike4wd, like that you left it big enough for tarp. Brilliant, man. Traveler looks awful comfy, too. Nice set-up.

    An observation...

The amount of line you have hanging down that the bag is hanging from... You could just as easily incorporate that into the bury and eliminate the need to add weight.

If the goal is weight savings by using a shorter bury... All that extra line isnt really saving you any weight. Ive found that a non load bearing dead eye only needs 2-3 inches of bury. You could easily shorten that eye splice and take advantage of the weight savings.

The weight savings is in using a UCR instead of a whoopie. I wanted a shorter bury to allow a shorter adjustment length. I'm not a decigram weenie ... yet!

Although, I could have made the eye splice (to be connected to a marlin spike) a little shorter ... since I ended-up locking it anyways. It's currently a 6" bury.

Have you tried using a piece of bungie cord prusiked onto the line to add pressure to the bury? Seems like it might be easier than searching for rocks, but I don't know if it will apply enough pressure.

    I like the stand!
