    Insultex 2/3 UQ

I broke out the sewing machine and cobbled together a rough prototype of what an Insultex 2/3 UQ might look like.

I used 2 layers of insultex and 2 layers of 1.1 ripstop. This version might be a few inches too small on both length and width for a true stand alone UQ, but I intend to use it in conjunction with a down UQ.

The quilt measures 36 X 47. I cut the fabric 37.5 X 48.5 and double rolled the fabric onto the Insultex. I did not roll the Insultex into the hem as it gets bulky real quick. I dog eared the corners about an inch back and added a grosgrain loop at each corner.

    Materials needed:

    3 yards of 1.1 ripstop
    3 yards of Insultex
    2 ft grosgrain

This is really rough and I didn't take my time to make it pretty....

Total weight = 7 oz. Here's the obligatory pics:

And, if I had any Insultex, your prototype UQ would be just like mine!

I'm planning to make something that size, 3'X4', with loops in each corner. I will call it an Insult Insert, to be inserted into any commercial UQ to extend the temperature range.

I made it all out of stuff I had on hand. But if you were to have to buy the materials:

    3 yards of 1.1 @ $7 a yd = $21
    3 yards of Insultex @ $3 a yd = $9
    24" of grosgain =$1?

Total = $31 (give or take a few sheckles).
