To my initial post, I added a link about the about the mechanical advantage of pulleys (<-- same as this one). I think it's easier and safer to multiply force. I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt or start a flood.

Dutch, since you already have this neat set-up...
Yeah and the problem lies in my love for my gear. You see I have a problem with the sacraficing and destructive part. I have broken my BB strap testing the Dutch clip and sacraficed Air core Plus and figure nines. I have a hard enough time just selling things and shipping them away (Too often to never be seen again) but to intensionally destroy gear so someone else has piece of mind. I don't see it happening.

I suppose I should make it clear that my interest is of curiosity for myself, and concern for the safety of others. I feel confident using these materials in the way that I do, but I would not feel as confident using them the way many members on this forum appear to do (because sometimes I need to hang in situations where a fall would involve greater risk than simply dropping a few inches to a flat patch of dirt).

In any case, I have asked several manufacturers of Dyneema/Spectra cordage for information on knot testing and none of them have returned any data, except to say that knots are not recommended, and that the properties of the fibre make it more vulnerable to loaded bends.

Although the sizes are much smaller, one source of knot testing information is from the fishing community which uses braided Dyneema/Spectra line (sorry, I don't have any good links about that).

Warn is replacing wire rope on their winches with Amsteel. I would imagine they have a pretty good handle on what this stuff will and won't do, if only we could pry it out of them.

No knots, just splices, and their smallest winch, rated @ 2500# line pull, uses 3/16 Amsteel.

    braided Dyneema/Spectra fishing line

Ron's Tackle is the vendor directly recommended to me by the manufacturer of Tuf-Line.

There are many different brands of braided Dyneema/Spectra fishing line, and any decent fishing shop should have some (even department stores). The larger sizes are harder to find but Ron's Tackle can special order any Tuf-Line products which aren't otherwise available.

I chose Tuf-Line because it has a good reputation in the fishing community and it's relatively inexpensive, and it also comes in sizes up to 800 lbs.

How about if you sacrifice my gear.

If you're willing to test, I'll make up the slings in both 1/8 and 7/64.

    Deal?
