The test pieces don't need to be full size. One could get away with just enough room for the buried sections, plus an inch or 2 between for good measure. I have access to a 5:1 pulley system, but no scale, so I'd have to do the water idea. It'll be a few weeks before I have time to play around with it, but if I do it, I'll report back.

This is just all too cool. There is nothing...absolutely nothing that can compare with constructive destruction in the name of safety! DO IT! I'll contribute what I can.

I chose Tuf-Line because it has a good reputation in the fishing community and it's relatively inexpensive, and it also comes in sizes up to 800 lbs.
    Thanks!!

This is what I was looking for..

    Which Will Fail First?

Toggle? Webbing? Stitching? Whipping? The hammock fabric?

OK... I just made up 2 slings. One using the locked brummel and one using a stitched fixed eye.

We have a fusing machine at work that specs out at 1300 pounds. Im going to attempt a dead lift using both slings. Ill have my camera... I dont have a scale of any sort... just manufacturers specs on the machine.

hey Guys, I've got access to our MTS brand Tensile/Compression load tester here on campus in our engineering building. It's rated up to 11k lb (50 kN) with the highest load cell we've got....let me see if I can get permission to do some testing on it and I'll get back to you
