Use of spreader bar with spiders without whoopie?

I want to try out the spider setup, but then I got to thinking about how to use the spreader bar when not using with a whoopie sling. i.e. trees are too close together or when I just don't feel like messin' with a whoopie.

The best solution I can come up with is to splice a double whoopie hook (DWH) onto a CL, attach that to the spider and hook the DWH to the hammock CL. Better ideas?

That is what I was thinking. The DHWH sandwiched between two loops.

Thanks Dutch. I'm not finding the DHWH on your site, is this what happens when out of stock?

I don't get it. These should *obviously* be called "double Dutch hooks".

So far I've only tried it once, but the DHWH on CL idea worked perfectly. I also lark's headed a CL onto the hammock CL, which moved the spreader bar outside the tarp. So yeah, 3 CL's and a DHWH in series.

I'm on the fence about the spiders though. I'm using Dutch's black webbing. I didn't find it all that easy to release and adjust once the hammock had been weighted. And yes I know ya have to lift all of the weight off before trying to release it. I'm reserving judgement till after I've had more time with it. That day, my primary goal was figuring out configurations for a DIY tarp to double hang under, so I didn't spend much time fiddling with the spider.
