Question Hammock Sock and drip line???

    20151122_090446.jpg

Hello Fellow Hangers. I have a question if anyone could help with advice. I am making my own DIY Hammock sock and have a dilemma. Do I bring the end of the sock past my descending ring of my hammock suspension so the ring is inside the sock with a much smaller opening in the sock, or stop shy of descending ring with sock ends and have a much larger opening to accommodate the ridge line and hammock? the reason I as is, I was originally going to go past the rings with the sock ends but then realized my drip line is covered.

Any thoughts before I start?? picture of suspension is attached.

    Thanks
    Marty

You might want to re post this in the weather protection section. But what kind of sock are you going to make ? If it is like the Dutch or Dream Hammock style, I would think you wouldn't want to have the sock ends past your rings. That would just make it further way when your trying to close it. At least thats how I see it.
Not sure if that's any help or not
    Good luck, J

If you have to pass your decending rings , you can always rig a water break by simply & quickly throw up a prussik knot or something like that higher up on both ends of your suspension line.

If you connect your hammock ridgeline to the endless loops instead of the descender rings, you don't have a problem. You definitely want to have the ridgeline within the sock, since it helps create a good space even if the sock is a little bit larger.

So I have to ask... Why the descender ring?

I would imagine he's using the rings as either a friction buckle for adjusting the suspension or as a connecting point. Either way I'd suggest stopping your sock right before the rings, that way you keep your water break and the sock won't be getting tangled in the rings when you set up.
PS I thought I'd add, if your making your sock for water protection make sure you have plenty of venting(even with a breathable material) other wise you'll be getting wet from condensation;-)

The decending ring are for a positive three way stop. Ridge line length is set so that curve of hammock is never changed no matter matter what angle the woopie sling is coming off trees. I chose desending ring for strength. See original pics. With this set up, the hammock is up in 2 minutes no matter what the span is of trees. I love the simplicity. As far as the sock, it's almost done. Some final sewing and ridge line strap and it's done. Didn't turn out like I hoped but it works. Sewing a zipper for the first time and doing so on a curve was HARD.20160311_163311.jpg20160311_163614.jpg20160311_163614.jpg

    Looks good in the pics.
By all means, let's argue about whether or not a hammock will hurt a tree. All the while ignoring the fact that there is an island of garbage the size of Texas floating in the Pacific ocean. Or how about the fact that over 75% of the world's nuclear reactors are leaking...
