    Confusion on Ridgeline Placement

After reading on the forum for a while, I came across ridgelines and their benefits. I immediately made my own UCR-style ridgeline and put it on my Eno Camonest (length 9'4''=112'';making 87% of the length about 97.5''). I originally attached the ends to the carabiners on my suspension. was this my mistake? I could never seem to get comfortable. I eventually just took it off, and my hammock was comfortable as ever.

I would measure your ucr in case it moved on you ,maybe put a few marks on it and try deferent lengths ,83% is kinda starting point ,but some like it a little more ,some like it a little less, with the ucr it will be easy to adjust ,but I suspect that the ucr is probally slipping slightly, by marking it you will know for sure ,

So it wasn't the placement in the carabiners as opposed to on the hammock itself or the ropes in the sewn channel?

You should be fine connecting to the beners as long as you take the extra length into consideration, measure your over all hammock length from attachment point to attachment point then calculated your length. You might try 83%

Most people start at 83% then tweak from there.

Try 83% of the length at the attachment points. If you do 83% or whatever of the hammock, but attach it farther up the suspension, it changes the sag

The 83% figure is assuming you are attaching to the hammock where it is whipped. If you move it up to the carabiners, you would need to add length to keep the same sag.

I made one of my fixed ridgelines too long so I put a few wraps around a carabineer. I figured I would adjust the length by wrapping around the biner and then when I got it where I liked it I would measure and make a fixed length ridgeline at that length. That was several years ago. I found I like being able to adjust the length so I just left the biner on the ridgeline. You might give it a try so you can easily adjust the length and get it where you want it.

Others, correct me if I am wrong, but find yourself a comfortable hang. Get someone to measure the length between the gathered ends. Make it so that your ridge line imitates this length. If a hammock is hung perfectly, the ridge line is of no use. When the hammock is hung too tight is when the ridge line does it's job.
