    First hang WHILE SNOWING

First time using my DIY hammock with my new Grizzbeak and new Hennessy SilNylon tarp.

Two day, single night 22 mile Appalachian Trail hike from Cross Mountain road into Damascus VA

Oh - and it started snowing while I was walking into camp.

Good job! Not enough snow to melt, but at least you had access to water, and hey! You made it to Damascus!

    Loved the accents too!

Neat experience. A real memory-maker, and I am jealous.

Thanks for the trip info, blog, and video. What app did you use to produce that map of the hike?

That looked like a lot of fun, I wonder how my 20* tq/uq would hold up there.
If you don't like today,,you are gonna hate tomorrow.

It's not an "app" per se - not on the phone. I use a delorme PN-60 GPS on my hikes, although on the AT it's mainly just for geocaching since the AT is generally pretty easy to follow. I just set it to record the track when I start, and save it when the hike is over. When I get home I download the track into Delorme's Topo software (I have version 10).

Rick - your 20* combo would probably have faired well. I have a 20* top and a 0* bottom. I always carry a thin fleece liner because I hate the nylon feel of the hammock and quilt. I was plenty warm overnight in my quilts. I had CBS for the first 20 minutes, and got out and adjusted my UQ attach point. My biggest problem was the cold on my face, But my usual solution worked. I throw the kilt over the ridge line and velcro it closed so it makes a little wind break right in front of my face.
