New Tom Hennessy Videos on Youtube

About a month ago I noticed a new hammock video on youtube.com so I watched and was pleasantly surprised to find that Tom H. himself presented these videos. Today he put up several more, including some GREAT little tips (Like hang your fly separately from your hammock.

For those interested HERE is the link.

what exactly did he patent...seems like the hammock has been in use for hundreds of years hasn't it? i'd think he'd have to sue millions in s.america for patent infringment...some one said it was the ridgle line, i bet you could find an old black and white photo from brazil where an indian had stretched a line over a hammock and then put a rug on it to keep the rain off

The asym design or perhaps the bottom entry?

Let's please not discuss the HH patent issue again. There's a very detailed thread with hundreds of posts on it in the archives...it's the asym fabric (which he doesn't use in his hammocks anyway) and the structural ridgeline (which we found in an 1800s patent so it's not defendable and warbonnetguy started putting structural ridgelines back in his designs).

But the videos are a good step.

Notice the changes to the tarp & SS Undercover?

The whole "Tom has a thing about patenting stuff" aside, I noticed something pretty interesting but subtle in his new tarp setup video.

Hennessy has added a ridgeline to the stock tarp. The ridgeline is placed under the tarp body.

Oh, and in the Super Shelter video, the (undercover) has been redesigned so that you can put it on and remove it while the hammock is up without having to run the suspension cords through the ends of the UC.

So it looks like Tom is paying some attention to what the wider hammocking community is doing. Gotta give some props for that.

His guys read the forums...the internet is great for saving R&D money. Nothing wrong with that - presumably that means the gear makers are listening to their customers and hopefully they're passing those R&D savings on to us. (Of course they have their own testers as well, and BGT, so internet forums can't take all the credit. )

Yes, these are good( 5 part series), he should have done that a long time ago. I now see exactly what the glove hook/zip tie SS set up is. Is that then standard for all models now? If not, it would be simple enough to add, and leaves no questions about correct adjustment. I would have to shorten the end elastics on mine, by tying a loop or whatever, as my system was meant to attach further out where the original tarp prussick was.

The new UC attachment process should now be easier and with less confusion for noobies.

The ability to put the SS on w/o undoing the suspension lines is a big plus!

I'd probably tie the glove hooks to the suspension rather than use a zip tie.

These new videos are much more helpful than the old ones.
