    Should I go wide?!!

I'm having a tough time deciding between a SL Hexon 1.6 and a W version of the same. I understand it's 58" vs 72". This is gonna be my primary hammock for camping and backpacking. I have a ground setup as well, but I'm hoping I will use this more than the other. I don't have a whole lot of experience with hammocks. I've owned a BIAS WW DL and a WBBB DL. Both of those just seemed like too much hammock for what I needed, plus I have a bad habit of buying and selling all within a couple months. So this will be my first single layer. I'm 6'3" 235. Also, would the knotty mod be beneficial for one over the other? Thanks in advance for any help.

    Recently I got a 12x6--very comfortable.
View is not as good and might end up getting a longer bugnet and a longer tarp. Fabric was too stretchy--so Marty at WildernessLogics is making a 12x6 with Hexon fabric. I think it will be my favorite hammock.

I'm waiting for my W1.6 to arrive, so I have no idea if the effect of the knotty mod is any different than standard widths. I'll make it with the knotty mod as I have it on all 4 of our 58 inchers and I prefer it to not having it. If you find you don't like it, all you have to do is fully loosen the shock cord, or remove it entirely. At worst you're out 15 bucks, but you'll be that much wiser for future decisions.

Pyrogen, have you or are you going to amend your previous pillow thread with your findings, and did you get to try a diff pillow with the W1.6?

I rolled up a throw blanket under my neck. No pain what so ever. I quite literally almost cried as I woke to the sunrise AND songbirds this morning feeling more well rested and ache free than I have in YEARS.

I love love love my Dutch Argon1.6 wide.

Just the walls feeling higher alone makes you feel more secure while sleeping

A BIAS Weight Weenie DL was too much hammock and now you're considering a hammock that is wider? That doesn't make sense to me.

    Should I go wide?!!

SilvrSurfr...the double layer made it seem like too much is what I meant. Double the fabric, double the weight.

You don't sound like a particularly wide person - usually the people who like wide hammocks are indeed wide people who don't backpack far and don't care about weight.

I did the DL thing for a while when I swore I wouldn't buy an UQ. Once I got one, I haven't used a DL since. The Knotty mod is just extra weight, in my opinion, but some people find it useful to help keep stuff in their hammock. Personally, I find it easier just to not kick my TQ out of the hammock, and I'd rather not have the weight.

I recently bought some Robic XL fabric that is 68 inches wide. I doubt seriously I'll make a 68" wide hammock - I'll probably trim it to 60" or 62 inches.
