will there be a newer version of the Tato Stand as far as lighter configuration? something lesser than 20lbs? thanks
A quote from the thread where this stand was first brought to our attention:
"......THE ENTIRE THING weighs less than 20 pounds (half the weight of the other full stand kit of this type on the market), is SO much easier to set up since it's basically only three pieces. The ridge pole and legs of the tripods all break down to make a 3'ish (I didn't measure) package that's all held together with shock cord running through it - similar to the poles some of us use for our pole mods on our tarps. It's also projected to come in significantly cheaper than the other stand of this type on the market......"
According to that, why would a newer version be necessary??
Depends on your weight? My Tato stand (200lb limit) weighs 16lbs and is a breeze to setup.
I have seen some comparisons to a Tensa 4 where they warn that the Tato Gear stand is unsafe in windy conditions and will blow over easily.
Is that the case? If so, how do you folks neutralize that risk?
The stand comes with guy lines and stakes which are plenty to secure the stand itself. An unloaded hammock turned spinnaker would likely pull those stakes. Add a tarp staked out and it feels quite solid and blocks the wind from filling the hammock. Add yourself to the hammock and it's solid. Wind strong enough to blow it over staked, tarped, and loaded are a strong indicator that its time to seek shelter in a car or building or bunker.
