The idea is nice as a concept. The last few seconds of the video makes me believe it could do with a wee bit of refinement though

Yeah, on that out-take I hadn't put enough turns on the wrap.

Id just sell the uq and get an insulated pad. Seems like a waste of a good uq...

Good idea. Always nice to have ideas on how to repurpose items in emergency scenarios.

only for emergencies... gear failure or environment failure (no trees).

So I guess we just need to find us some good lightweight dry bags. Seems like the larger the better. Any good links? I really like the idea as I am in sometimes in areas in So Utah with no trees (Moab for example).

I really like the idea! It's a similar concept as the Exped DownMat. Now, if anybody made a "pad shell" that you could fill with your underquilt... It wouldn't be quite as multi-use, but it could still be a pretty lightweight option for people who know that they have to go to ground now and then.

Good to see this. This was my plan for a trip I have coming up where I have my doubts I will find a decent hang spot for just one of the (6) nights. Not worth bringing a full pad for that. This and a small Thermarest sit pad for my hip area. Thanks!
