    Gifts From The Phillipines

Over Thanksgiving my nephew came home, he's been stationed in the Phillipines for the last year. We have been talking to him via Facebook, and I mentioned my "obsession" with hammocks. So as a gift he picked up some local trade from the islands. A beautiful weaved string hammock, with lots of bright colors. A Phillipino Army hammock, double layered nylon, with the edges tripled over. According to my nephew, they use it as a blanket,,tarp or hammock. And a full sized mosquito net.

Very cool and an awesome suprise!!

He flew back Saturday, and as a return gift, I gave him a Digital Camo hammock with suspension. Seemed a good gift, being camo!

Army hammock I already set up once..first impression was small for me, I'm 6-4 and narrow. will put up some pics and stats soon, for sure. Mosquito net is a different twist from anything I've seen here...story to follow.

He is an awesome nephew, we are very proud of his sacrifice to protect our freedom and country.

    more pics and stats

Okay a quick hang on the back deck for the army hammock, 8' x 4'. Like I mentioned earlier, its small, but doable.

Just did a simple gather on the ends. It came with a "suspension", more like a glorified shoelace, but it does work. I'll add some good stuff when I get it.
    matts gift 2 004.JPG
Mosquito net fits around gathers and has elastic that makes up a semi-ridgeline, with an extra chunk of fabric to enclose the top entrance. Sort of a cross between a sock or tube and the quarter weight idea. Just flop open the entrance for in/out and the elastic allows it to stretch. Once in close, the extra flap. Kind of ingenius, actually.

Close up of the sewn detail that makes up the gather end of hammock.

And, lastly the weaved hammock, I sat in it, and it is unpredictably stretchy, but it held, and I'm 330, so thats a plus. It will take some fooling to know where to hang it, with that much stretch, or it may settle down in time. But still very nice looking. If at worst it can be a gear hammock. (my daughter has already mentioned how good it will look in her room.)

Wow, gargoyle! That was really nice of your nephew! God bless him for his service over there.

Always great seeing other hammocks. Thanks for the photos!
