    Hanging in Koomer Ridge?

Hey all, I hope this is the right place to post this question. I'm hoping to hike and camp this week in RRG, if a health issue clears up quickly, and take my son camping for the first time. I was checking out Koomer Ridge campground because being close to a restroom, water and the car might make a nervous first-timer youth feel more comfortable for his first overnight.

Question is, the walk-in sites at Koomer Ridge all say "tent camping" but is it possible and/or permitted to setup a couple of hammocks instead? What about the other single sites there if the walk-ins are full? Not sure how cleared out the camping spots are and if there are enough trees and space for two hammocks.

We had 2 hammocks and a tent on our campsite and didn't hear any complaints from the staff. It's an awesome campground. Most of the site's should support 2 hammocks. I hope your trip goes nice and smooth!

I think it just means no campers - RVs, pop-ups, etc.

If it happens to be full you could always stay at one of the primitive sites off Tunnel Ridge Rd. The still have pit toilets and close to the car. Just no shower house.

    Have fun!

This might get more traffic in the Southeast section.

Don't forget about Hidden Arch and Silvermine Arch. Both are close to the KR Campground.

Koomer Ridge is a really nice campground. I don't have experience trying to hang there though. FWIW, the shower house is probably closed. We were there last year mid-late April and stopped for a mid trip break and the shower was closed. The only things open were the primitive toilets. However, I will say they were nice and clean. While it's first come-first serve, you probably shouldn't have issues finding a site this time of year. Also, I recommend bringing some ear plugs if you are a light sleeper as you can hear the highway all night.

My gf and I will also be heading down there although we won't be leaving until Saturday. Maybe we'll see you there. I've never been to this area either, but Koomer Ridge is in a National Forest which I believe, universally, allow hammocks as long as you hang with tree straps. I suppose it would depend on who maintains the campground itself though.
