Did I buy the wrong thing?

    Hi,

I am struggling with something and need some help.

I bought two lengths of 1.75 mm Dyneema black
    http://dutchwaregear.com/1.75-mm-dyneema-3-colors.html

And a 10" Loop Turner Splicing Tool
    http://dutchwaregear.com/10-loop-tur...cing-tool.html

So I can attach the Dutch hook I also bought myself.

However, I can't get the splicing tool inside the line. The tool seems to be to thick as far as I can discover. So did I buy the wrong tool? Or, am I just not doing it right?
I keep learning and will never know enough.

I'm not positive on the brand of loop turner that Dutch carries, but I have no difficulties splicing smaller diameter line with my Dritz 9.5" Loop Turner. Looking at the video, I can't tell if there is a difference between the tools or not.
If the tool seems too large, maybe try working in a smaller tool of some sort to help pre-expand the line. Anytime I'm splicing 1.2mm techline, I pre-expand the line with a small steel tooth pick before using the loop turner.

For the 1.75 mm line you won't be able to use the loop turner. Floral wire or guitar string are what I typically use for that sized line.

I can just barely use my loop turner on 2.2 mm Zing-it. It works perfectly on 7/64 Amsteel.

    Good Luck

Try these http://www.theknittingcloset.com/pd_double.cfm for the smaller lines.

There's also a tool that's just like a loop turner but with a much smaller head. Unfortunately it's also very short. Still useful if the bury is not too long. I plan to cut off the handle and weld on a piece of tig wire.

Other than that, I use a thermostat wire. Strip it or not, works either way.

I just bought the exact same items. They're in the mail now. So let me know if you can get it to work! Or if you find a good alternative. Thanks!

The 1.75mm is tiny and it's a struggle to get the loop turner in there. i ended up using a piece of wire from a cat5 cable. You can use anything small, strong, and stiff enough. I've also used picture hanging wire.

Just use a piece of long wire, fold it over in half and give it a few twists to form a stiff twisted wire with a loop at one end. Fish the wire through the Dynemma and then just open the loop once it comes out where you want. Feed the prepped end of the Dyneema in to the loop and mash it closed with your fingers.

I use a loop turner on 1.75 mm zing-it. I just kind of bunch it up (to expand it) where I want to insert it and then slowly push it over the turner. It does take a little getting use to. A smaller diameter wire is probably a little easier.

When I'm splicing zing it/lash it, I use a 12 inch wire leader (fishing leader) folded in half. Works like a charm.

Small metal quilting needles work great for 1.75 mm lash it. I use the bigger ones on 7/64 amsteel.
