    comparing a couple of underquilts.

Hi guys, i am looking to purchase a under quilt for under 100 dollars, and there seems to be a couple of decent ones in my price range. i was thinking of either the

    - snugpak underblanket (out of stock as of now) $50
    - DD underblanket (this one looks really good for the price!) $50
    - jarbidge River underquilt $100

which one would you recccomend? i am leaning toward the DD right now.

EDIT: is the DD the same as the snugpak?

    Snugpak underblanket - 51 ounces
    DD underblanket - 34 ounces
    Jarbidge UQ - 20 ounces

The Jarbidge is good down to 25* F. Snugpak won't even provide a rating, and the DD underblanket is rated down to 23* F.

I'd lean toward the Jarbidge because it weighs so much less and has a proven track record with people who don't want to spend the money on down, but don't want to carry excess weight.

+1 . I would just save a few more pennies and get a down UQ. IMHO so your not spending money on down , down the road.

My son and I have snugpak under and top quilts. I wanted to go with something higher end, but having to outfit 2 of us at once, I couldn't see spending $800 for 4 down quilts, especially just getting into it. Last night was our first hang and I have to say I was impressed. It got down to 31* last night and I was plenty warm. I could see taking these quilts into the low 20's or event the teens. That being said, I do plan on upgrading to down later on, but on a budget, the snugpaks are great. The other bonus to these is that some of our camping will be kayak trips which I wouldn't want to take down for anyway.

I also have the Snugpak UB and have been warm down to 27* but that being said I am a warm sleeper. I will upgrade to down at a later time because I and buying gear for three, if you don't mind the little extra weight snugpak would be a good place to start at for $45-50 bucks, I have not tried the DD so I can not speak for that quilt.

I can speak for the DD Hammocks Underblanket! I have not been cold in it yet, and the temp has been down to about +5 C...I will be trying it in a few weeks, so there is potential of colder than that. The rating indicates comfort to -5 C...I believe that would be accurate. It compresses down amazingly small...see the photos I just posted here: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...=1#post1620682

It took me a bit of fiddling to get it set just right on my Warbonnet Blackbird, but I got it now, and it doesn't let me down! I am 5' 11", 215lbs and it is just the right length that my shoulders and feet have full coverage from the blanket. I use a pillow, so not worried about my head.

Shipping is super fast...about 2 or 3 days from the time you order!

    Hope this helps!
