    Trying things out in Ontario.

Well, I've been looking around on here for a while, learning lots of stuff. Thought I should finally make a post and introduce myself. I just camped for the first time last night with my hammock setup, including the underquilt I made with all the help I learned from here. I was helping my brother and his family move to a new place where they have a couple acres of nice bush. So I spent the night trying out my hammock for the first time and trying out their forest for the first time for them.
    Definitely lots to learn still.
Thanks to all for the help so far...hopefully I can make some contributions as I learn more.

Welcome! There's a definite learning curve but it does get better.

Wow. Ontario is getting snowstorms at the moment good for you. I wish i had the courage. Still need my first overnight in my hammock. Happy to see my recently bought Kelty 9 should be more than enough. Any tips on underquilts? I have a site booked in Algonquin for early May and have a sinking feeling that UQ will be necessary.

You'll definitely want an UQ/pad for early May. I usually get to Algonqin the last week of June and I need one then. I'm a warm sleeper but it is amazing how much heat you lose from just a slight breeze under the hammock.

Yeah, it got down fairly low temps that night, probably pretty close to 0°C. But I stayed warm so I was happy! I'm pretty sure you'd want an UQ, based on what I've read on here.

The only thing I found with the Kelty tarp was that because of the diamond shape, the corners were pretty much right at the trees. Couldn't have had the trees any closer together, even though my suspension would have allowed for it. Maybe I'll have to make a rectangular or hex tarp sometime.
